Edwardsville and Glen Carbon Real Estate Chat: Reversing Our Reputation - Remember The Golden Rule

Reversing Our Reputation - Remember The Golden Rule

A few months ago, I wrote a post titled "The Reputation Of Realtors - A Small Attempt At Reversing It"

The short version of it is...

I answered the phone in the office on a whim one morning and the woman on the other end asked for an agent that she worked with in the past.  She said they were considering buying a second home, and some things happened personally that prevented them from doing it at that time.

I wasn't sure if the agent used to be with us, but I was pretty sure she worked for another brokerage.  When I told her she wasn't with our company, I offered to check the MLS for the agent's number.  I gave her the number of the agent, and the woman was shocked that I acted in the manner I did.  She couldn't believe I gave her the number of my competition in such a tough market.  I explained to her that if the other agent put in her time and talent to help them find a home, she deserved a chance at their business.  I told her that I hoped another agent would do the same for me.

So, here's the update...

Much to my surprise, a few weeks later she called me.  She told me about how the other agent didn't return her call.  We set up a time to look at a few homes that met their needs.  One Saturday morning, and four showings later - we had an accepted contract.  Closing took place last month, and they couldn't be happier.  At closing we were actually told "You're the best we've ever worked with.  You guys know how to get business done."

I know the market is hard right now - buyers are hard to come by.  Don't let your desperation for a sale compromise your beliefs.  If you hold true to your standards, the business will come.

Good morning Kristina,

These are some very good points on how to treat people and what good can happen when doing it the right way.

Way to go!  And in 4 showings!  Something I've been telling others you can systemitize and do consistantly.

Sorry for the sidetrack.

Anyway,  its nice to know that what you put out comes back to you, amplified.  Think of the referrals you're likely to get because of how you treated her without expecting any return.

You get a gold star on your citizenship chart!

Hi Kristina. Absolutely!!!! You tell 'em. That is the way to break the misconception that most realtors are greedy. I applaud you. :)
